There is a lot you can do with a stack of compact discs.

Many people accumulate unusable compact discs over time. Rather than throw them out, you can use these discs in a variety of easy-to-make crafts and give them new life in ways you may never have thought possible.

  1. Coasters

    • Perhaps the simplest craft to make with an old compact disc is a coaster for soft drinks. While the plain CD works fine, spruce things up by drawing, gluing or painting a design on the disc. This craft is easy and serves a purpose in your living room or kitchen. Attach a piece of felt cut to the CD shape to protect the furniture and keep the coaster from sliding.

    Picture Frame

    • Compact discs serve as great picture frames. The shiny side of the disc provides a decorative frame for family photos. Simply cut a photo into a circle that measures about 2 inches to 3 inches in diameter and paste it over the disc's center hole. You can also add a magnet to the back of the disc to create a refrigerator door decoration.

    Disco Ball

    • Make your own disco ball using old compact discs.

With a stack of old compact discs, you can make a fun item that will jazz up any party. A disco ball made of cut-up CDs is easy to make. A styrofoam ball is used as the center piece. The compact disc is cut into small, jagged pieces and the dull side is glued to the ball, leaving the shiny side out. The result is a disco ball that can be used as a party decoration or hung from the Christmas tree as an ornament.
