Rubber or latex raincoats help protect your body and clothing from the rain. Your rubber raincoat can attract dust, dirt and other particles. Cleaning your rubber raincoat will help keep it looking new. You can take your rubber raincoat to the cleaners, but professional laundry cleaning can be expensive. Fortunately, you can properly wash your rubber raincoat yourself to prevent damage and discoloration to the coat.

Treat any stains on the raincoat using a stain remover specific to removing stains from latex clothing. You can purchase these types of stain removers at a home improvement store or a large chain drug store.

Read the care label of the raincoat for specific washing instructions. Wash the raincoat in the washing machine or hand wash as instructed. If the raincoat does not have a care label, then submerge it in a large pail or basin of warm water for about 30 minutes.

Hang the raincoat to air-dry in a cool, dry place. Do not dry the raincoat out in the sun — white patterns will appear on the rubber, ruining the colors of the coat.

Dust the raincoat lightly with talc after drying before storing. This will help lubricate the raincoat and make it easier for you to put on.
