1
Measure the border of the quilt. Multiply this number by 1.5.
-
2
Cut the fabric into strips that are 3 1/2-inches wide.
-
-
3
Sew all strips into one long strip, then sew the ends together to create a loop.
-
4
Fold the strip in half with opposite sides facing each other. Iron the fabric with a warm iron.
-
5
Sew two rows on the strip, 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch from the raw edge, respectively. Use the gathering stitch, making sure to make it as long as the machine will allow it.
-
6
Mark the strip into quarters, using pins as markers.
-
7
Pin the frill to the front and batting of the quilt. Be sure to match raw edges. Stitch with a 1/4- inch seam allowance with a walking foot.
-
8
Trim fabric near the seam line.
-
9
Turn the ruffle outwards and remove any visible gathering stitch. Cover all stitches and seam allowances with backing. Stitch into place with a slip stitch.
