How to Crochet Flower & Leaf Squares
Popcorn stitches make up the flower on this flower and leaf pattern. It makes the petals of the flower puffy. The square is similar to a granny square. An advanced beginner should be able to crochet it without any trouble.

Round 1: Chain four stitches and join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Chain one stitch and crochet eight single crochets in the ring. Join the eighth single crochet to the first single crochet with a slip stitch.

To crochet a popcorn stitch, crochet five double crochet stitches in the specified stitch. Draw the loop up on the hook so that you don't lose it. Remove the crochet hook from that loop. Insert the crochet hook in the first double crochet made. Catch the dropped loop and draw it through the loop of the first double crochet. Chain one stitch.

Round 2: Chain three stitches and count as a double crochet. Crochet four double crochets in the first stitch. Drop the last loop on the hook and pick up the loop on the top of the chain 3. Catch the dropped loop and pull it through the remaining loop and chain one stitch. Tighten the popcorn stitch and chain one That counts as the first popcorn stitch. From this point onward, make seven more popcorn stitches as shown in Step 2. Slip stitch the last popcorn stitch to the first popcorn.

Round 3: Join the leaf color yarn in any chain 1 space. *Chain three stitches and count it as a double crochet. Crochet two double crochets in same chain 1 space. Chain one stitch and crochet three double crochets in the same chain 1 space again. One corner of the square is formed. Chain one and crochet three double crochets in next chain 1 space and chain one.* Repeat three times between the asterisks, but make a double crochet instead of chaining three at the beginning.

Round 4: Join the border color of the square in any corner chain 1 space. *Chain three stitches and make two double crochets in the same space. Chain one stitch and make three double crochets in the same space again. In the next chain 1 space, chain one stitch and crochet three double crochets. In the next chain 1 space, chain one stitch and crochet three double crochets.* Repeat three times between the asterisks, but make a double crochet instead of chaining three at the beginning. Join the last chain 1 to the beginning double crochet with a slip stitch. Secure and cut the yarn leaving a tail for weaving in to hide. Weave all tails of yarn in.

Tips & Warnings
Make two flower and leaf squares with an extra large crochet hook and sew them together to make a purse.
