How to Clean a Clawfoot Tub

Melissa Rae

Clawfoot tubs lend an antique appearance to any home's bathroom. Commonly made from porcelain-enameled cast iron or acrylic, these tubs are durable and made to last for decades. Proper cleaning ensures your clawfoot tub will retain its original shine and luster over time.

  1. Wet the clawfoot tub with hot water from the faucet or shower.

  2. Apply 1 to 2 tbsp. of dish soap to a damp sponge. Wipe the clawfoot tub with the sponge.

  3. Sprinkle enough baking soda or powder cleaner to cover any tough stains. Scrub the stains with the sponge, adding more baking soda or cleanser as necessary.

  4. Rinse the clawfoot tub with clean water. Fill a bucket with water and pour it over the tub or run water from the shower to rinse.

  5. Dry the clawfoot tub with a towel to prevent water spots from forming.
