You can give your cake a professional look by adding an image of your choice to the top of the cake. Adding a picture to your cake allows you to personalize your cake for specific parties and events. You can take nearly any image or pattern and successfully transfer it to your cake, creating unique desserts for any occasion.
Things You'll Need
- Parchment paper
- Decorative image or pattern
- Icing gel
- Gel food coloring
Print a mirror image of the picture you want to transfer to your cake. Go into your printer's options and set it to print "mirror image." This will print your image in reverse so it will transfer correctly to your cake. In popular printers such as HP, Canon, and Lexmark, you can go to Printing Preferences and Finishing/Effects.
Tape the image you just printed to a flat surface. A cake circle, clean counter, or piece of cardboard will work.
Cut out a piece of parchment paper that is the same size as your cake. Lay the piece of parchment on top of your image.
Trace the design of your image on the parchment paper with black icing gel or a black food pen.
Turn the parchment paper over and choose where you'd like the image placed on your cake. Gently lay the parchment paper on the cake and rub the outlines onto the frosting.
Trace the outline on your cake with black icing to make it more prominent. Fill in the design with any colored gels or icing you want.
Tips & Warnings
- If you fill in your design with icing, it is best to wait until the frosting firms up. You can smooth the frosting with a finger dusted with cornstarch.
