How to Crochet Duck Feet Booties

Crochet baby booties are a traditional gift for newborns. Often created from lambswool of varying colors, there exist a myriad of instructional patterns that provide conventional designs. Yet, for those seeking alternative options, the duck feet bootie offers an amusing modification of the standard crochet footware.

Things You'll Need:

  • Size G Steel Crochet Hook
  • 2/2.75Mm Crochet Hook
  • 2 Oz. Crochet Yarn, Preferably In Orange Or Yellow

Shape the Bootie Sole

Compose nine chain stitches with the orange yarn and size G hook. Make three single crochet. Stitch five half double crochet. Turn and work along the opposite side of the chain and half double crochet the next stitch. Complete the last five stitches with single crochet and join to the first single crochet with a slip stitch.

Construct one chain from the last stitch on the hook, making two single crochets three times. Craft a single crochet in the next five stitches in the second row. Perform a half double crochet in the next two stitches and, following this, make three half double crochets in the next stitch. Form two single stitches followed by three half double crochet in the next stitch and proceeding that, half double crochet the next two stitches. Complete the last five stitches with a single crochet and join to the first single crochet with a slip stitch.

Create one chain of two single crochet and repeat three times to start the third row. Make a single crochet to construct the next nine stitches and repeat four times. Complete the last five stitches with a single crochet stitch and join to the first single crochet with a slip stitch. Repeat this step to create the fourth row.

Construct Bootie Toes

Make two half double crochet in the next stitch to start to shape the toes. Form two double crochet in the next stitch, followed by two chains. Slip stitch the second chain from the hook to create a picot. Finish with one double crochet.

Form a half double crochet in the next stitch, followed by two double crochets. Make two chains to create another picot. Craft two double crochet in the next stitch and follow with a half double crochet. Complete by making two double crochets to generate a picot.

Join to the first single crochet with a slip stitch and weave in the end to complete the toes.

Create the Bootie Top

Create 22 loose chains and join the first chain to the last to form a ring. Alternate the front post stitch and back post stitch around the chains in the next row and end the row with a front post stitch around the last double crochet. Join with a slip stitch and repeat this process an additional two times forming rows three through five.

Compose one chain with a single crochet for 11 stitches to begin the sixth row. Follow with a half double crochet in the next stitch and then make two double crochet. Put together two treble crochet and repeat three times. Craft two double crochets in the next stitch and follow this with a half double crochet in the next. Finish the last two stitches with a single crochet. Join the first single crochet with a slip stitch.

Complete the seventh and eighth row by following the step for the sixth row, except create the first chain with a single crochet for 14 stitches and 16 stitches, respectively.

Match the heel and arrange the inside of the sole to the inside of the top. Pin the pieces together to hold. Slip stitch through the pieces to join and turn them inside out to complete.

Tip

Booties fit newborns to infants up to nine months.

When selecting a yarn, look for a lambswool or similar material so that the booties are gentle on the baby's skin.
