Cod is a mild-tasting fish with flaky, white meat. You can bake cod fillets to create a tasty, healthy meal for your entire family within a few minutes. Start with fresh fish, or thaw frozen fillets in your refrigerator before baking them. Customize the flavor of the fish by using seasonings such as dried or fresh herbs. Butter will make the baked fish extra moist, but you can use a low-calorie cooking spray to coat the baking dish if you're watching your fat or calorie intake.
Things You'll Need
- 4 cod fillets
- Melted butter or olive oil (optional)
- 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish
- Low-fat butter-flavored cooking spray (optional)
- 1 lemon
- Seasonings, such as salt and pepper, to taste
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Brush both sides of four fresh or frozen thawed cod fillets with melted butter or olive oil.
Spray a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish with low-fat butter-flavored cooking spray if you choose not to brush the fish with butter or oil. Place the fish fillets into the dish.
Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the fillets. Sprinkle seasonings, such as salt, black pepper, dried or fresh dill or paprika, to taste, on the fish.
Place the baking dish on your oven's center rack. Bake the fish uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, or until its flesh is opaque and flakes easily when checked with a fork.
