How to Fill a Bubbler Pipe

Depending on your smoking preferences, a bubbler pipe offers a different experience and smoking sensation. Rather than a traditional pipe, a bubbler has a small chamber for water between the bowl where the tobacco is loaded and the stem where you smoke. This bubbling chamber provides both a filter and an accumulation spot that increases smoke quality and thickness. It's easy to fill a bubbler pipe and clean it. Keeping the water fresh and clean is essential to avoiding accumulating mildew or germs in the pipe.

Things You'll Need

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Small funnel
  • Clean your bubbler pipe in warm water and use a mild dish soap to wash it. Insert a pipe cleaner into the stem to clean out residue or other grime. If your pipe is made entirely of glass, you can even boil it to remove unwanted buildup.

  • Place the small funnel into the mouth of stem. Depending on how your pipe is constructed, it may be necessary to put the funnel into the bowl.

  • Pour a small amount of water into the funnel at a time, letting it travel to the bubbling chamber before you add more. Fill the bubbling area about half full. If you overfill the chamber, there will be no area for smoke to collect. Dry the bowl and stem with a cloth or paper towel before smoking.

  • Test the level of water by smoking a tiny amount of tobacco and make sure that smoke is building up in the bubbling chamber.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change your water frequently for consistent smoking.
  • Bubbler pipes are frequently associated with smoking illegal substances and may carry a stigma if used in public.
