How to Cook Drum Fish

Drum fish are a mostly bottom-dwelling species of fish often found in shallow, tropical waters. These fish are popular as game as well as food. Often served as steaks, drum fish have a unique flavor. Like most fish meats, this flavor can be brought out by citrus flavors like lemon. Drum fish is baked at a medium heat to retain the moisture found in the meat.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 lbs. drum steaks
  • 1/2 c. French dressing
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 (32 oz.) can French fried onions
  • 1/4 c. Parmesan cheese
  • Chef's knife
  • Shallow pan
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

  • Cut the drum fish steaks to an appropriate serving size.

  • Set the drum fish in a shallow baking pan.

  • Mix together 1/2 a cup of French dressing, two tablespoons of lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

  • Pour the mixture on top of the steaks in the pan and let the fish rest for 15 minutes.

  • Flip the steaks over in the marinade and allow them to rest for another 15 minutes.

  • Sprinkle French fried onions and Parmesan cheese on top of the steaks.

  • Bake the dish for 25-30 minutes and serve.
