The sirloin cut of beef is located toward the back of the cow, and in front of the "round" meat section. The sirloin steak is tender and delicious when cooked properly. This piece of meat is so tender that it does not need moist heat cooking like other meats might. Cook the sirloin steak in a pan, on the grill or broil it in the oven and enjoy a tender, juicy steak.
Things You'll Need
- Seasoning (salt, pepper, paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder and cayenne pepper)
- resealable plastic bag
- Vacuum sealer (optional)
- Grill type pan
- Grill (with Charcoal briquettes or propane)
- Steak thermometer
Allow the sirloin steak to defrost completely in the refrigerator if frozen. Place the seasoning ingredients in a resealable bag and place your sirloin steak in the bag as well. Seal the bag and shake it to season the sirloin steak. Once you have shaken the bag, remove the meat and rub it into each side of the steak further to help the seasonings penetrate into the meat. Once you have finished with seasoning, allow the sirloin steak to sit for as long as 24 hours. Vacuum seal the bag if you have a vacuum sealer. This will allow you to soak up the flavors into the meat properly. Take the sirloin out of the plastic bag or airtight vacuum-sealed bag after a maximum of 24 hours and discard the bag.
Place the pan on the stove and set the burner underneath to medium heat. Allow the pan to become hot before adding the sirloin steak. Once the pan has become hot, add the steak and cook the steak until you have reached the desired level you would like. Turn the steak only once to cook the steak properly. Poke the steak with a fork to check the meat color on the inside, and check the steak with a thermometer to see that it has reached the desired temperature.
Cook your sirloin steak in an oven if you would like to broil it instead. To cook it in the oven, place the steak on a grill pan and place it on the rack that is closet to the heat source. Cook the steak for four to five minutes depending on the level of thickness on each side and move it to a part of the oven that is further away from the heat source after you have cooked the sirloins steak on each side. Check the steak with a thermometer to see that it has reached the desired internal temperature.
Prepare your charcoal grill with charcoal briquettes or your gas grill with propane. Set your grill up so that one side of the grill is hot while another side is cooler. Put your sirloin steak onto the grill and sear it for four to five minutes depending on the thickness of the steak and move the steak to a cooler area of the grill to finish cooking it. Check the steak with a fork to see the color of the meat. When you sear the meat, you will lock in the juices of the sirloin steak. Check the steak with a thermometer to see that it has reached the desired internal temperature.
