How to Remove Fiberglass Fibers
Itchy skin is not uncommon after a brush with fiberglass, particularly fiberglass insulation. The itch is the result of fiberglass fibers in your skin. These little fibers cause discomfort until they either fall off or get removed. Fiberglass fibers can't be removed with tweezers, because they just break under the pressure. High-adhesive tape or hair-removal wax are two of the best ways to remove these pesky fibers. Clothing that has been covered with the fibers should be removed and washed prior to removing the fibers from the skin. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Mild soap
- 2-inch packing tape
- Hair removal waxing kit (kit should include craft stick applicator and waxing cloth strip)
- Microwave

Removing the Fibers with High-adhesive Tape

Take a warm shower and wash your skin with a mild soap using a wash cloth. Allow your skin to dry completely.

Wrap your pointer finger with 6 inches of high-adhesive packing tape so the tape is sticky-side out.

Touch the irritated areas of skin with the sticky tape to remove the fiberglass fibers. If the itching ceases then the task is complete. If the itching persists try an additional method.
Remove the Fibers with Hair-removal Wax

Heat up a 1/2 cup of of hair-removal wax in a microwave for 10 seconds. Heat in 10-second increments until softened. The container must be microwave safe.

Scoop a pea-size amount of wax out of the container with a craft stick.

Apply the wax to the affected area of skin.

Lay a wax removal cloth strip over the wax and allow the wax to dry for five minutes.

Grip the cloth and peel the wax off the skin along with the fiberglass fibers. This will remove the majority of the fibers. The remaining fibers will work out of the skin as the dead skin cells shed.

Tips & Warnings
The wax may remove some hair as well.
