There are many reasons why you might be compelled to decorate a home chapel, but one popular reason is so it can serve as the backdrop for an intimate home wedding. When decorating your chapel, there are certain factors to take into account. For instance, consider how many people the chapel can house and the intent of having a chapel at home. Once you have settled on the layout, make it more inviting with decor.
Things You'll Need
- Decorative arch
- Floral arrangements
Create a focal point for the chapel. In most chapels, this will be an altar that is front and center in the room. Behind the altar, decorate this focal area with an arch that will draw focus to the area. This arch could be made of lattice board, wire or even strategically placed floral arrangements.
Provide adequate seating. The point of a chapel is to create a place for people to gather. Adequate seating will ensure they are comfortable. For a home chapel, it is not necessary to have church pews. Lining up folding chairs in rows with aisles in the middle and on the side will suffice.
Place flowers to accent the space. Real or artificial, flower arrangements can create interest and beauty in the space. Arrange the flowers along the aisles or on the walls.
Choose lighting that will help establish the mood of the room. For your home chapel, you can typically rely on overhead lighting fixtures or table lamps to set the lighting. However, decorative string lights, candles and wall sconces can also be a powerful presence in the space.
Showcase religious elements. In many churches, stained glass depicting religious imagery, statues of holy figures or paintings with religious themes are common. These can be used in a home chapel as well to highlight the reason for designating this space.
Accent the seats and aisles with ribbon, fabric and floral elements. This will add charm and color to your chapel, which is especially important for weddings and other formal events.
