How to Solve the Area of a Square

Save

Equations to find the area of an object are often used in geometry and construction or remodeling plans, especially when it comes to finding the proper amount of carpet or tile needed to cover a floor. Finding the area of object can be confusing for many shapes, but this isn't the case with squares. The calculation for the area of a square is the same, regardless of the unit of measurement.

Things You'll Need

  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Measure the height of the square using a ruler or tape measure.

  • Measure the width of the square. (If the shape is truly a square, the height and width will be the same.)

  • Multiply the two measurements together to get the area. For example, if the square is two inches high and two inches wide, the total area is four square inches.
