When choosing theme colors for a fall or winter wedding, select rich and deep, complimenting colors tones, such as gold and wine-red. Wedding colors are crucial and tie every aspect of the event together, including wedding-party attire, flowers and decorations for the ceremony and reception.
Things You'll Need
- Floral arrangements
- Silk ribbons
- Table linens
- Chair covers
- Paper lanterns
Use dark-red-colored flowers, such as roses or tulips, to decorate the ceremony site. Arrange flowers around the alter area and on chair backs or the sides of pews. Tie gold-colored, silk ribbons into bows on the flower arrangements. For a Christmastime wedding, use poinsettias as your floral choice.
Create ambiance at the ceremony with candlelight -- especially for a nighttime wedding. Place wine-red-colored candles, in a variety of shapes and sizes, in elegant, gold candleholders at the front, near the entrance and on the ends of aisles. Alternate wine-red- and gold-colored candles throughout the room or use one color for the candles at the ceremony and the other color for the unity candle, to make it stand out.
Tie large, silk ribbons -- wine-red and gold in color -- into bows on the backs of each guest's chair or to the ends of pews. Use ribbons to decorate other parts of the site, such as around the wedding archway and on the base of tall, free-standing candleholders.
Create an elegant and visually stunning look for the bridal party table and guest tables. Use wine-red-colored tableclothes paired with gold overlays, along with gold chair covers featuring wine-red sashes. For centerpieces, choose dark-red floral arrangements placed in golden vases, or red and gold candles of various sizes placed in tall, clear, glass holders. Another option is to place a fishbowl, full of water and a red beta fish, in the center of each table and lay golden stones in the bottom.
Showcase your guest-book table by displaying black-and-white pictures of special moments from the couple's relationship in wine-red and golden frames, and small, wine-red candles.
Use paper lanterns or long sashes of ribbon, in wine-red and gold colors, to decorate the ceiling of the wedding reception facility. Arrange the lanterns randomly across the ceiling or around the edges of the room. Or use long sashes of reflective silk ribbon, hung loosely between light fixtures from the ceiling.
Tips & Warnings
- Avoid going overboard and using wine-red and gold for every item. Choose a third, neutral color, such as ivory or white, to provide balance.
