How to Make Easy Fabric Flowers for Free

Fabric flowers add interest to plain clothing and linens.

Fabric flowers serve as an elegant embellishment for clothing, linens and hair accessories. They also work to make lovely bouquets or stand-alone flowers and to add a decorative touch to any number of items. Flowers are easy to make at home with any spare fabric you have on hand, allowing you to personalize each flower and create the perfect match at no cost to you. As an added bonus, fabric flowers never wilt or go out of season.

Things You'll Need

• Scissors
• Needle
• Thread

Instructions

1. Print out a flower template if you are choosing to use one, then cut it out as trace as many flowers as desired. Nine to 18 layers are recommended. If you choose to free-hand draw your flowers, you may cut any shape that you find appealing. Figure-eights in various sizes will turn out nicely.

2. 

   Try using several different fabric colors on one flower.

   Stack the layers on top of one another, staggering them so they are not perfectly aligned.

3. Sew the layers together by stitching an "X" directly through the middle of the stack.

4. Fold the stack in half at the "X," and stitch through the stack. Fold it in half once more, and sew another stitch through.

5. Tie off the thread, and open the fabric up, allowing your flower to blossom.
