Cooks need to know how to properly clean stainless steel pots and pans to take away stains without ruining the metal. If you use your stainless steel cookware often and notice that it's becoming tarnished, restore the surface of the dishes so that they look as good as new.
Things You'll Need
- Bleach-free, acid-based cleanser
- Fine steel wool pad
- Club soda
Cleaning Stainless Steel With Non-Bleach Cleanser
Wet the stainless steel dish, and apply a bleach-free cleanser that is acid-based. Most grocery or discount department stores carry these kinds of cleansers.
Rub the cleanser onto the dish lightly with a damp washcloth in a circular motion, until the stains have been lifted.
For more difficult stains, mix the cleanser with water to form a paste. Leave it on the stainless steel pot or pan for about a minute.
Remove the paste from the pan with water and a washcloth.
Clean the dish with soap and warm water to remove any additional residue from the stainless steel cookware.
Cleaning Stainless Steel Cookware With Club Soda
Wet the stainless steel pot or pan.
Scour the dish with warm water, mild dish soap and a fine steel wool pad.
Pour club soda on a dishcloth and clean places on the dish that have heat or steam streaks. Rub the dish in the direction of the steel grain.
Tips & Warnings
- Clean your stainless steel dishes with gentle dish soap and warm water with each use to keep the dishes looking their best. An all-metal cleanser can be used to restore the shine of the dishes.
