How to Use the Meco Electric Smoker
The Meco Electric Smoker uses wet wood chips, a water pan and a heating element to slowly cook your meat while adding a nice smokey flavor to it. Smoking is a very common practice in barbecuing. During smoking, the meat is not exposed directly to a flame but cooks while being exposed to heat and smoke from either a wood fire or electric heating element. The housing of the smoker contains the heat and smoke and allows larger meats like turkeys and beef roasts to cook as thoroughly as they do in your oven. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Soak your wood chips in water for an hour. You can experiment with different types of wood chips in order to achieve different flavors. Two common types are hickory and mesquite.
-
2
Place your wood chips around the heating element of your Meco Electric Smoker. It is acceptable for some of the chips to touch the heating element but this is not necessary to achieve smoke.
-
-
3
Plug in your Meco smoker to an available electrical outlet. Turn the heat control knob to "High," to begin warming up the heating element.
-
4
Place aluminum foil in the water pan. This makes cleaning your smoker much easier after you are done smoking.
-
5
Place the water pan in the bottom of the smoker.
-
6
Add hot water to the water pan. You can also use other liquids to achieve different flavors, such as beer or wine.

Place the cooking grid in your smoker. Your meat will be placed on top of this grid while it cooks.
-
8
Add your meat to the grill once it has begun smoking.
