A spaghetti stain on your polyester fabric adds both a color stain as well as grease to your clothing. Since polyester is heat-sensitive you must be careful when removing the spaghetti stain. Tend to the stain as soon as you can before it has time to set or spread in the fibers. A combination of commercial products and home remedies loosen the tomato and oil stains from the polyester so you're not left with a greasy, orange stain on your clothes.
Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Laundry detergent
- White vinegar
- Pre-wash stain remover
- All-fabric bleach
Wipe up the spaghetti stain with a paper towel to remove any spaghetti sauce ingredients, such as tomatoes.
Place your spaghetti-stained polyester on a clean towel, stain side facing up. Pour laundry detergent on the site of the stain and rub the fabric together to work the detergent into the fibers. Leave the detergent on the stain for 10 minutes to loosen it.
Rinse the stain with cool water. Wash off the detergent and rub the polyester together once more to remove any loosened stain.
Pour white vinegar onto a clean sponge. Blot the remaining spaghetti stain to remove the orange or red color stain. As the stain lifts, move to a clean portion of the sponge or rinse the sponge off.
Apply pre-wash stain remover to the last of the spaghetti stain and allow it to soak in for 10 minutes. Launder your polyester in warm water with laundry detergent and all-fabric bleach to remove any last trace of stain. Hang your garment to dry.
Tips & Warnings
- Soak spaghetti-stained clothing in diluted vinegar overnight to help remove the color portion of the stain.
- Scrubbing a spaghetti stain to remove it can cause the stain to spread. Blot or sponge the stain instead.
