How to Create a Menu for a French Restaurant

How to Create a Menu for a French Restaurant thumbnail
A menu for a French restaurant should be as fine as the food that it's representing.

When it comes to food, France has a culture that is entirely different from that of the US. Fine dining has long been a tradition in France, and the finer the food and wine, the higher the implied class of the diner. With such an emphasis on food, the menu also plays into the food culture of France. Fine food demands a fine menu to represent it, and French restaurants in the US should certainly abide by that standard to preserve their authenticity. Does this Spark an idea?

Decide which dishes you want to serve at your restaurant. There are a number of classic French dishes, including Blanquette de Veau (a veal dish), Quiche Lorraine and Soupe à l'Oignon (onion soup), to name a few. A resource such as My French House may assist you in determining which dishes you want to offer. You will want to select a few dishes for each course, including appetizers, soups, salads, mains, dessert and (because this is a French restaurant) a cheese course.

Design the template for your menu. Must Have Menus offers templates and customization options. Keep in mind that "fine dining" is the theme of the day, so a menu design that is meant for a bowling alley or for a pizza shop won't be suitable for a French restaurant. You can use their menu editor to tailor the menu specifically for the restaurant that you have in mind.

Download the menu in PDF format. You can print as many of the menus as you'd like. You may want to consider investing in some heavier card stock instead of printing the menu on regular printing paper in order to increase its lifespan.

Order menu covers. You can just laminate the menu, but if it's a menu for a fine French restaurant, chances are it's more than one page long. You can order the covers online from Restaurant Discount Warehouse. When the covers arrive, insert the pages of the menu into each cover.
