Wedding shoes make a sentimental keepsake if they are kept clean and all unsightly spots are removed. Most wedding shoes are made from satin or other gentle fabrics, so regular methods of stain removal should not be used. Be careful when cleaning stains and remember that if these methods do not work, taking them to a professional dry cleaner is the best bet. The method for cleaning white or light colored shoes is different than cleaning colored shoes.

White or Light Colored Wedding Shoes

Clean the shoe thoroughly using a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any excess dirt or debris. Follow the natural weave of the fabric and use short, gentle strokes.

Mix a small amount of OxiClean with water until it creates a paste.

Apply the OxiClean paste to the stain on the wedding shoe then use the toothbrush to gently rub it out while following the weave. Do not rub it in a circle or against the weave; use short, quick strokes.

Wipe off any excess OxiClean with a clean towel. After the OxiClean has been wiped away, hold the towel against the wet spot to blot up any excess water.

Dry the wet spot completely with a hair drier set to the lowest, coolest setting.

Colored Wedding Shoes

Apply a small dab of seltzer water to the stain then rub the stain gently with a toothbrush, following the weave of the fabric.

Soak up the excess seltzer water with a dry, clean towel.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the stain is completely removed.

Dry the seltzer water spot completely with a hair drier set to the lowest, coolest setting.

Allow the shoes to dry completely before wearing them to prevent other stains from forming.
