How to Add Ringtones to a Droid

The Droid, a smartphone manufactured by Motorola, comes in several different models, including the Droid X and Droid Eris. All Droid phones can access the Internet, play MP3 files, and connect to a Bluetooth network. Add ringtones to your Droid phone in just minutes using just your computer, a ringtone file and the USB cable included with your Droid.

  • Turn on the Droid phone and navigate to the "Settings" menu. Press and hold the large circular button at the bottom of the Droid. The phone will power up automatically. Tap the "Settings" icon once on the LCD screen to load that menu.

  • Connect the included USB cable to the Droid. Insert the small end of the USB cable into the side of the Droid; see your owner's manual for the specific location of the USB output on your phone. Connect the other end of the USB cable into an open USB port on your computer.

  • Select the "Mount" option on your Droid menu. The Droid's menu will automatically ask you to "Mount" the USB drive onto your computer. Tap the "Mount" button on the Droid. A USB drive image will appear on your computer desktop. Click and drag the ringtone audio file you wish to add into the new USB drive. The ringtone will automatically load onto your Droid's hard drive. Repeat this step to add more ringtones.

  • Switch the Droid audio settings to play your new ringtone. Press the "Main Menu" circular button on the bottom of the Droid. Select the "Settings" menu, then choose "Ringtone Settings." Scroll through the list of available ringtones until you find the new file you just added. Tap the new file image once and the Droid will make it your new ringtone.
