Couples often choose to have an arbor as part of their wedding decorations. The wedding party and the couple often stand under an arbor when the couple recite their vows. Wedding arbors are typically decorated with flowers, greenery, wedding bells and bows, filmy white fabric, lace, white lights or colored lights and even pictures of the bride and groom. You can purchase an arbor at a specialty supply store and assemble it, but you can also make one yourself.

How to Make a Wedding Arbor

Find an arbor frame made of metal, wood or vinyl. If your ceremony is outside, secure the frame in the ground to steady it. If the ground is hard, place the legs of the frame in large flower pots filled with soil and real flowers to add a decorative touch.

Attach the greenery to the arbor frame after you have secured it in place. Use green floral wire to attach the artificial ivy to the frame as it blends in well with the greenery. Opt to include magnolia leaves, citrus leaves, ferns and evergreen branches. Choose the wire diameter based on the thickness of your greenery. Cut the wire into small, bendable pieces and attach each strand of leaves.

Select flowers that match the flowers in your bouquet to decorate the wedding arbor. Place the flowers directly in the greenery without using wire. Alternate colors as you place them in the arbor. If you use fresh flowers, add plastic florist tubes to provide a water source. Hide the tubes inside the greenery on the arbor.

Add final touches to your wedding arbor by stringing it with white lights or colored lights that match the color theme of your wedding. Use an extension cord to supply electricity, and hide the cord behind flower pots or other wedding decorations. Attach the lights to the arbor by using floral wire or decorative ribbon.
