How to Wax the Floor
Floors that have been waxed are less susceptible to scratches and dirt from daily use. They also have a shine that improves their appearance. It is possible to apply wax to floors that do not have a urethane finish. For best results, clean the floors and strip them of any old wax buildup before applying a fresh layer. Strip the floor of any wax buildup. You may use a wax removal product or make your own. If you prefer to make your own wax remover, mix 3/4 cup of ammonia and 1 cup of dry detergent with 1 gallon of hot water. Pour a small amount of the mixture on the floor and let it sit for five minutes. Wear gloves and scrub it with a brush or nylon sponge to remove the wax. Wash the area with clean water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth. Repeat the process on other areas of the floor until it is clean. Wait for the floor to dry.

Pour the wax into a bucket. Stand in the far corner of the room opposite the entry. Apply a thin coating of wax on the floor with a clean mop. Move the mop in figure eights as you apply the wax. Work in small sections, moving outward from the corner and working your way to the door. Let the wax dry for at least an hour.
