A curette is a surgical tool for cleaning or scraping debris. It is a small instrument with a handle at one end. The other end is a metal prong ending in a hook, scoop or gouge. Curettes are used in many surgical procedures, including gynecology and the treatment of adenoids, as well as for biopsies. They also are used in dentistry to scrape tartar from the teeth.
