Choosing to celebrate a 60th birthday as a surprise party requires close attention to details. The timing of the party, the theme, the guests, RSVP's and parking situation all have to be well-organized to pull it off successfully. Start with the invitation. When wording a surprise 60th birthday party invitation, clearly state it is a surprise party.
Things You'll Need
- Card stock
Start the invitation with words that indicate the party is a surprise. At the top of the invitation write, "Shhhhh...It's a Surprise!" You can add, "She, (or He), has no idea" and "Please save the date, it's going to be great!"
Write a verse for the invitation. Possible phrases include: "She said, 'Please don't make a fuss', but we have planned a big bash and hope that she remains oblivious!" or, "He said, 'No party', but when do I listen, so I invited all we hold dear, to celebrate his 60th year."
Indicate the time and date clearly in bold-face print. Also spell out the approximate time that the guest of honor is expected to arrive, so guests know not to show up too close to that time.
Place the name of the venue including the complete address on the invitation. Enclose a map if it is an unfamiliar place or if you are inviting several out-of-town guests. It won't be much of a surprise if guests arrive at the wrong place.
Include special instructions such as where to park, how to dress and what to bring. Including these details on the invitation so that the surprise party guests know what to expect.
Tips & Warnings
- Include an RSVP phone number or email address that the birthday man or woman will not check, hear or see. If a spouse is throwing the party, enlist the help of a friend to receive the responses.
