Neckties are a essential part of any man's wardrobe. They instantly dress up and outfit and make it suitable for a job interview, business meeting or formal event. Neckties can be difficult and tedious to tie every time they are worn. Ties with elastic neck bands make looking sharp as easy as slipping your pre-tied necktie over your head. With a few materials, you can make your own elastic necktie.

Tie the necktie around your neck. Ask someone else to tie it if you do not know how.

Cut the knot and tie about 1 inch or 2 inches away from the neck band on each side. Set the knot and tie aside.

Wrap the elastic around you neck as tight as you would normally wear your necktie. Make sure the ends of the elastic hang down far enough to attach to your tie so it hangs at the proper length. Cut off any excess elastic.

Attach a safety pin to one end of your elastic. Feed the safety-pinned end through one end of your neck band.

Line up both elastic ends with the neck band ends and pin. Sew along the pins so that both ends are closed.

Pin the now-elastic neck band to either side of the tie's knot. Sew each side together. The tie should slip over your head and fit comfortably.
