Create additional lighting for kitchen tasks with under-cabinet lights. Placement of under-cabinet lights is important to have an effective installation. Factors for placement include size of cabinets, location of appliances and designated work spaces on the counters below the cabinets. Proper measurement for the lighting will allow you to place the lights in an effective manner.
Measure between the inside edges of the sides underneath the wall-mounted cabinets. This is the width of the under-cabinet space available for mounting. Mark the measurements on a notepad.
Place your tape measure between the inside edges of the back and front underneath the wall-mounted cabinets. Write down the measurement. This is the depth of the under-cabinet space that is available for mounting lighting.
Calculate the center of each cabinet space width and depth. This is the location that you should mount an under-cabinet light.
Measure the counter space below the wall-mounted cabinets. Determine the work areas that will require an under cabinet light based on appliance and sink locations. Mark down the measurements.
Compare the measurements for the counter work spaces with the under-cabinet dimensions and adjust the light positions as needed to effectively light the work spaces on the counter. Mark the lighting locations on the underside of the cabinets by measuring and lightly marking with a pencil.
