Easy Way to Clean Grout with Vinegar Tutorial

Save

The grout in between tiles is really hard to keep clean and can stain very easily because it is such a porous material. White grout can become dark and dirty, while grey colored grout can turn cloudy and dingy. Chemical cleaners that promise to clean grout stains usually don't live up to their promises, and can even damage the grout, causing tiles to lift and crack. The good news is, all you really need to clean your tile's grout is vinegar and a little elbow grease!

Step 1: Spray grout lines with a mixture of vinegar and water.

Mix 50% vinegar and 50% water in a spray bottle.

Warning

  • Do not oversaturate the grout lines or leave the vinegar and water solution on the grout lines for an extended period of time. The acidity in the vinegar could eat away at the grout if left on for too long.

Step 2: Use a scrub brush or toothbrush to work baking soda into grout lines.

The mixture of baking soda and vinegar will help lift any stains and make them easier to wipe away. Just use your scrub brush to work the mixture into the grout line.
