How to Remove a Sticker From Your Unfinished Wood

Kaye Wagner

Removing sticker residue can be tricky, but with the right products you can remove stickers from any material. Easily stained or damaged materials, such as unfinished wood, require special products to remove the stickers without damaging the materials. Unfinished wood is very porous and will soak up any cleaning solution that is put on it. For this reason, avoid using traditional sticker-removing products such as WD-40, ammonia or peanut butter, as they can permanently damage the unfinished wood.

Eraser

Unfinished wood lacks a protective layer to prevent solutions from soaking in.
  1. Pull each corner of the sticker in toward its center.

  2. Remove the entire sticker at a 90-degree angle.

  3. Rub a pencil eraser over the sticker residue to remove it from the unfinished wood.

Paint Thinner

  1. Peel off as much of the sticker as possible.

  2. Dab paint thinner on a clean cloth.

  3. Apply the paint thinner to the sticker residue on the unfinished wood.

  4. Wipe the area once the sticker has been removed.

Hair Dryer

  1. Peel off as much of the sticker as possible with your fingers.

  2. Turn a hair dryer onto high heat.

  3. Concentrate the hot air over the sticker residue, and gradually wipe it away with a clean cloth as you heat it.
