How to Use a Craftsman Laser Trac

Craftsman makes many types of saws, such as a Miter saw, which have an option to use a laser guide to assist when cutting wood. This is referred to as “Laser Trac” which is the trademark name, that is used by Craftsman, for the laser guide on their saws. You are able to use the Laser Trac option of a miter saw if you have a second-hand saw or have purchased a new one from Sears.

Things You'll Need

  • ¾ -inch plywood
  • Pencil
  • Power drill
  • Clamps

Mount for Portable Use

  • Place the miter saw on a square piece of ¾-inch plywood. Mark the location of the mounting holes with the pencil.

  • Drive screws into the mounting holes with the power drill to secure the saw to the plywood.

  • Attach clamps to the plywood to secure it to saw horses or to a work bench.

Use Laser Trac

  • Measure the piece of wood that needs to be cut with the tape measure. Make a cut mark on the wood with the pencil.

  • Place the piece of wood on the base of the saw. Set the switch for the laser guide to the “I” position to turn on the laser.

  • Adjust the wood so that the laser is aligned with the cut mark. This allows you to preview the path of the saw blade before making the cut.

  • Press the trigger on the saw to start the blade. Pull the handle down to cut through the wood. Release the trigger and lift up on the handle.

  • Set the switch for the laser guide to the “O” position to turn off the laser.

  • Repeat this process to cut another piece of wood using the Laser Trac function of the saw.
