How to Make a Baby Bath Towel

Any old bath towel can be used when bathing a baby, but a hooded bath towel is easier to keep the baby wrapped up in and therefore keeps her warmer. Hooded baby bath towels can be purchased almost anywhere that baby items are sold, but are often thinner than regular bath towels. Make your own baby bath towels using a regular bath towel and a wash cloth for a warmer and more absorbent hooded towel.

Things You'll Need

  • Large washcloth
  • Scissors
  • 1/2-inch seam binding
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Bath towel

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the washcloth in half diagonally and cut along the fold so you end up with two triangles. Set one of the triangles aside.

    • 2

Open up the shorter side of your seam binding, one side will be larger than the other, and line that edge up with the raw edge of the long side of your triangle. Pin the binding to the washcloth triangle.

    • 3

Sew the binding to the triangle in the ditch of the crease you see with the flap of the binding open. Sew all the way across the long edge of the triangle in this manner.

    • 4

Fold the binding back closed. Then, fold the binding over to the other side of the triangle and pin the binding in place from the side of the triangle you just sewed in the ditch between the binding and the terrycloth.

    • 5

Sew in the ditch, on the same side of the triangle you sewed the first line, removing the pins as you go.

    • 6

Line up the corner of the triangle created by the two shorter edges with one of the corners of the bath towel. Place the side of the triangle you first sewed the binding to face up.

    • 7

Pin the triangle in place. Sew 1/4 inch in from the edge along the two short edges of the triangle.

    • 8

Sew binding around all four edges of the towel in the same manner as you did with the long edge of the triangle. Start by pinning the shorter side of the binding to the front of the towel so the stitching on the binding that shows is on the back of the towel.
