How to Remove Vinyl Lettering From Windows

Vinyl letters are placed in store windows as a way of advertising.

Vinyl lettering is a combination of letters, numbers and graphics made using vinyl stickers. The lettering can be placed on most flat surfaces, but are commonly placed on car windows or store front windows for advertising purposes. The adhesive used on vinyl lettering is strong, allowing the stickers to withstand multiple washings and weather elements. However, vinyl lettering can be removed fairly easily without ruining the glass or windows.

Things You'll Need

• Blow dryer
• Razor blade
• Glass cleaner
• Rag or paper towel
• Denatured alcohol

Instructions

1. Try to gently peel the sticker off. If the sticker has not been in place for a long amount of time, it may peel right off.

2. Use a blow dryer on low heat to warm up the adhesive if the letters don't peel right off.

3. Place the edge of the razor blade under the sticker. Gently lift up the edge. Once the edge is lifted, remove as much of the vinyl sticker by lifting it up with your hand. Continue to use the razor to lift where needed. Repeat as needed until all letters or stickers are removed.

4. Spray a glass cleaner on the window. Use a paper towel or rag to wipe away the glass cleaner and any remaining sticky residue.

5. To remove stubborn residue, Direct Decals recommends using denatured alcohol.
