Quilt labels made with the help of a computer and printer add a finishing touch to a hand-made quilt. Add your name, date of quilt completion, city and state to the back of your quilt so future generations will have this valuable information. The label also provides important historical data for quilt enthusiasts. Many quilt styles are associated with particular periods of time, and the quilt label will be assistance in record keeping.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4-yard cotton muslin fabric
- Freezer paper
- Ink-jet printer
Iron the muslin fabric to the waxy side of the freezer paper. Cut out a sheet of muslin/freezer paper to measure 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Cut all loose muslin threads from the edges of the paper or they will jam the printer.
Design your quilt label in your computer’s word processing program. Include the name of the quilter, the date of completion, and the city and state of residence of the quilter. The label can be as large as you like, as it will be located on the back of the quilt.
Add an image, if desired, to the quilt label design.
Place the muslin/freezer paper in the ink jet printer and print the computer-designed label on the muslin side.
Cut out the label and appliqué it to the back of the quilt by folding the label edges under 1/4 inch and sewing small stitches around the label to attach it.
