How to Clean Mold From Caulking

Cleaning caulk can prevent the spread of mold in your bathroom.

Mold on the caulking around your bathroom is nothing that you want family and friends to see, but mold in a bathroom is common. Mold grows in humid climates. The bathroom is one of the most humid environments in the home. Cleaning mold off of your caulk is easy and you can do it with common cleaning products you probably have at home.

Things You'll Need

• Vinegar
• Spray bottle
• Baking soda
• Toothbrush
• Bleach-based cleaning solution
• Sponge

Instructions

1. Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle.

2. Spray down caulk with the vinegar. Allow the vinegar to sit on the mold for about an hour.

3. Sprinkle a little bit of baking soda onto the mold.

4. Scrub the area with a toothbrush to remove mold. Make sure there are no traces of mold.

5. Use a sponge and a cleaning solution that contains bleach to clean any remaining stains.

Tips & Warnings

• You can remove and replace the caulk moderately easily if the mold does not go away.

• Use bleach-based products in a ventilated area.
