How to Remove Black Ink From Light Shirts
An ink stain on your light shirt can be the result of a broken ballpoint pen, washing the writing instrument with the clothing or accidentally marking on the garment. Black ink stains can be difficult to remove from fabric, but it is not impossible. There are a few home remedies that can remove that black ink stains for good. Before beginning the ink removal process, test the preferred method on an inconspicuous area of the shirt. If damage occurs, discontinue use. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2 cloths
- Dry-cleaning solvent
- Rubbing alcohol
- Laundry detergent
- Large dish
- Milk
- White vinegar
- Cornstarch
Instructions

Dry-Cleaning Solvent and Rubbing Alcohol

Lay the shirt on a flat surface with the black ink stain facing upward.

Saturate a cloth with the dry-cleaning solvent. Blot the ink stain with the cloth until the ink stops bleeding.

Saturate a clean cloth in rubbing alcohol. Blot the stain with the cloth. Start at the edge of the stain and work toward the center.

Apply laundry detergent if the stain is still present. Rub the detergent into the shirt. Let sit overnight.

Rinse the light shirt in cool running water. Launder as you normally would.
Milk

Fill a large dish with milk.

Submerge the light shirt completely into the milk.

Allow the shirt to sit in the milk overnight.

Remove the shirt from the milk and launder as you normally would.
Vinegar and Cornstarch

Lay the shirt flat. Apply white vinegar directly to the stain so that it becomes damp.

Create a paste of 3 parts cornstarch and 2 parts white vinegar.

Apply the paste directly to the ink stain. Rub the paste into the fibers of the shirt.

Allow the paste to dry completely. This may take several hours.

Wipe the paste off the shirt with a damp cloth. Wash the garment as you normally would.
