Faux suede paint is a beautiful application that creates a warm and inviting finish to interior walls, but what options does the homeowner have when they want to change it? The faux suede finish has a semi-textured surface that does impose some complications when a different wall surface is desired. There are a few ways to combat this situation. Removing the suede paint requires a professional and can be costly. It is best to cover the paint by means of regular interior paint over a primed, slight orange peel texture.
Step 1
Mask all areas you want protected with masking tape and lay down drop cloth onto floor. Take careful measure to mask all windows and door trims. Pour primer into paint tray and load your paint roller. Use diagonal motions when painting the wall to avoid paint lines. Continue until you have covered the entire wall area(s) you want to cover with the new paint color. Let dry overnight.

Step 2
Mix texture product with chosen interior paint color as per directions/ratio of texture product. The new texture will help cover and eliminate the existing faux suede texture. Pour wall color into paint tray and load your paint roller then cover entire wall area(s) you want to cover with the new paint color. Let dry for four hours, then apply a second coat.
Step 3
Remove all masking tape and drop cloth. Clean or throw away all paintbrushes, rollers, trays, etc. Enjoy your new room!
Tip
You can also use a Venetian plaster product to cover faux suede. This would eliminate having to primer the rooms walls, as the Venetian plaster would go directly over the suede paint with no preparation other than the normal prep for Venetian plaster.
