Removing baked-on grease takes more cleaning than washing other dishes. The baked-on grease hardens and sticks to the surface of the item, often a pan. Baking soda, dish soap and sponges are all safe to use on any type of pan. Abrasive cleaning pads and some commercial cleaners can cause scratches in pans' linings and other surfaces. The sooner the baked-on grease is cleaned off, the better chance you have of saving the item. If an item with baked-on grease is used frequently without proper cleaning, the grease will never come off.
Things You'll Need
- Sink with stopper
- Degreasing dish detergent
- Baking soda
In the Sink
Place the stopper in the sink. Put 4 to 6 drops of dish soap into the sink. Fill the sink halfway with hot water.
Place the item in the sink. Allow it to soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Scrub the item with a sponge to remove the loosened grease. If grease is still on the item, let it soak for another hour.
Rinse the item off with clean water.
Wet the item with water. Sprinkle baking soda all over the wet, greased area. The water combines with the baking soda.
Let the baking soda sit on the baked-on grease for an hour. The baking soda soaks up some of the grease and loosens it.
Scrub the grease off the item with a wet sponge. Rinse the sponge frequently to keep grease from building up in the sponge. Rinse the item off with clean water.
