Epoxy paint is used for a multitude of surfaces such as garage floor systems, custom auto wheels, home appliances and boats. Epoxy paint is one of the most durable paints on the market today and will stand up to harsh environments and abuse better than acrylic or enamel paints. With regular cleaning and care, epoxy painted surfaces will last a very long time while retaining its shine and color. Using harsh abrasives such as steel wool or scrub pads to clean an epoxy painted surface should not be performed, as damage to the finish will occur.
Things You'll Need
- Floor cleaning solution
- Mild degreaser
- Scrub brush
- Squeegee and shop broom for floor applications
- Cleaning towels
Sweep an epoxy painted floor with a shop broom to get rid of any loose debris. If you are cleaning an appliance or custom auto wheel, use a towel to knock off any loose debris or dust from the surface.
Mix the degreaser or floor cleaning solution in a bucket of water according the instructions provided by the cleaning solution or degreaser. Apply a small amount of cleaning solution to the painted surface to check for color fastness. Never use oven cleaners, toilet bowel cleaners or any other harsh chemical or abrasive cleaners that will damage the paint.
Dip the scrub brush into the bucket of water and cleaning solution and proceed to scrub the painted area until all of the dirt and grime is lifted from the surface. Rinse the area thoroughly with water and dry the surface using towels for appliances or wheels (use a large squeegee to dry epoxy coated floors).
Tips & Warnings
- Do not let the cleaning solution set on an epoxy painted surface for longer than necessary as damage to the color or surface will occur.
