How to Fold Christmas Napkins

Save

Folded napkins dress up a Christmas dining table, making even the simplest fare a treat. Fold your holiday napkins in special designs, and give your dinner table a bit of style. Coordinate your napkins to match your tablecloth, dinnerware and goblets. Quality napkin materials like linen hold napkin design shapes well. Invest in a set of napkins to use repeatedly during the Christmas season. Napkin folding is a nice art to teach children, too.

Things You'll Need

  • Linen napkins in red or green
  • 1-inch wide ribbon in silver or gold
  • Scissors
  • Jingle bells
  • Goblets
  • Miniature Christmas ornaments

Jingle Bells

  • Iron linen napkins to erase any folds or wrinkles.

  • Cut an 8-inch length of ribbon for each napkin. Clip both ends of the ribbon by cutting in a V shape with your sharp scissors.

  • Slide a jingle bell onto the ribbon, threading the ribbon through the holes on the top of the bell.

  • Fold your napkin in half horizontally. Then fold your napkin in half again vertically. Roll up the napkin scroll style.

  • Lay the ribbon on the table, and place the rolled napkin on top of it, making sure the bell is not underneath the napkin.

  • Slide the bell along the ribbon to place it in the center of the folded napkin. Tie the ribbon in a bow to secure the napkin and the bell.

Goblet Napkins

  • Iron linen napkins.

  • Fold the napkin in half vertically, and even up the edges. Place the folded napkin so the edges are at the bottom.

  • Starting on the far right and working to the left, accordion fold the napkin to make small 1 1/2-inch pleats.

  • With the napkin vertical, gather up the bottom 1/3 of the napkin, and fold it up toward the back. Put your folded napkin into your Christmas goblet.

  • Add a miniature plastic Christmas ornament to the glass as a keepsake for guests.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make place cards from card stock, and string them on the napkins under the jingle bells.
