AutoCAD is a type of computer-aided drafting software that can be used for many applications, from designing homes to furniture. Many types of CAD software are available depending on the desired use. Cabinetware, Cabinet Pro and Cabinet Creator are examples of computer-aided drafting software for cabinetmaking and design. Using an AutoCAD program designated for cabinets is beneficial because the software greatly simplifies the process of building the cabinets by creating drawings and supply and cut lists as well as cost estimators. This saves time and reduces the probability of errors in the process. The CAD softwares are simple to use. Full versions of CAD software can be purchased along with a license agreement, but the program and license agreement can be quite costly. Free CAD downloads are available online to aid in cabinetmaking and design.
Things You'll Need
- AutoCAD software
- Measurements of area where cabinets will be installed
Install AutoCAD software onto the computer.
Familiarize yourself with the functions of the program. Read any introductions or instructions that came with the program. Functions will vary depending on the AutoCAD program that was purchased for this application.
Use the measurements of the area where the cabinets will be installed to design the type of cabinets desired. The CAD program will have a "draw" function which will allow for the entering of the dimensions of the cabinets.
Use the "draw" function to design each of the base and wall cabinets according to the specifications of the room. Each cabinet should be drafted separately for accurate measurements and cut lists to be generated.
Save the drawings and print. Once all of the cabinets have been designed on the program, a supply and cut list can be generated.
