A video graphics card.

Shared memory for a video card is the amount of random access memory (RAM) shared with the rest of the computer. You can adjust shared video memory through the computer's BIOS menu, which is accessed during the computer's boot process. As a rule of thumb, do not set the shared video memory more than half of the actual RAM on the computer. This will cause other processes on the computer to run slower.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the computer and tap the "F8" key until the BIOS menu appears. Depending on your computer's brand, you may have to tap another key to bring up the BIOS menu. The three most common keys are "F8," "F10," and "F12."

    • 2

Locate and go to the "Integrated Peripherals" menu in the BIOS screen and select the "AGP aperture size" option.

    • 3

Adjust the amount of shared RAM you wish to allocate to the graphics card. You will usually have the option to choose between 8 to 256 megabytes of shared RAM.

    • 4

Save the changes you made, exit BIOS, and restart the computer.
