Mix 1/2 tsp. of mild liquid dish detergent with 1 cup of warm water. Agitate the water with your hands to form suds. Dip a portion of a clean cloth into the soap and water and squeeze lightly so that the cloth is damp, not dripping.

Blot the area stained by fingernail polish with the damp cloth. As the fingernail polish transfers to the cloth, use a different portion of the cloth for cleaning. Spray the area with water and blot up excess moisture with a dry cloth.

Put 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide in a small spray bottle. Spray the stained area with the peroxide to dampen it. Leave the peroxide on the area for 30 minutes and then blot dry with a clean, white cloth. Repeat this step as many times as needed to completely remove the stain.

Use acetone nail polish remover sparingly as it can dissolve latex backing on carpet.
Test the hydrogen peroxide on a hidden area of the carpet to determine if it will affect the carpet dye.
