How to Clean a Plastic Sink

Clean your plastic sink with vinegar and dish soap.

Plastic sinks are in many kitchen and bathroom areas because they are inexpensive and require little maintenance. As with any other type of sink, plastic sinks are consistently in contact with food, soap and dirt that leave an unattractive film on the surface of the sink. Instead of cleaning the plastic sink with an expensive commercial cleaner, make your own homemade cleaning solution by using a few low-cost household ingredients.

Things You'll Need

• Dish soap
• Water
• Vinegar
• Nylon sponge
• Cleaning eraser

Instructions

1. Plug the sink, and drizzle 1 tbsp. of dish soap across the bottom of the sink.

2. Pour hot water into the sink until the water line is 4 inches high. Agitate as you add the water to create soap suds.

3. Add 1/4 cup white vinegar to the water as well, which will disinfect.

4. Scrub the plastic sink with a nylon sponge, which is slightly abrasive but will not scratch the plastic. Scrub in small circular motions, cleaning the entire structure of the sink as well as the surrounding hardware.

5. Drain the sink, and rinse the nylon sponge with fresh hot water. Wipe the wet sponge over the sink once more to wash away the cleaning solution and any lifted residue.

6. Scrub small spots of residue with a cleaning eraser. Moisten the eraser with water, and wipe over the spots to remove.

7. Rinse the sink with water when finished cleaning.
