How to Remove White-Out From Fabric

White-out can be great for correcting those little written mistakes you may make on forms and papers. However, if you should get it on your clothes in the process, this can be frustrating. If you have some white-out stains, learn how to properly remove them to insure your clothing isn't damaged for good.

Things You'll Need

• Butter knife (optional)
• Club soda (optional)
• Paper towel
• WD-40 spray (or other silicone-based lubricant)
• Wash cloth
• Washing machine
• Blow dryer

Instructions

1. Remove any flakes or bits of white-out from the garment using your fingernail or a butter knife. If the stain is fresh, dab away any excess with a paper towel or soak it in club soda so that it doesn't set.

2. Spray the stain on each side of the fabric with WD-40 or another silicone-based lubricant so that it is thoroughly soaked with the liquid. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

3. Using a clean wash cloth and warm water, dab and rub the stain from the inside to try and push it out. Place a clean paper towel on the other side to collect any white-out that may come off. After about five minutes, flip the fabric over and repeat this step with the other side.

4. Wash the garment on the warm cycle. Dry the stained area with a blow dryer to see if the stain has been removed. If it hasn't, repeat these steps again until the stain is gone.

Tips & Warnings

• If WD-40 doesn't work, there are also a variety of other stain removers you can try, including club soda and baking soda, acetone, window cleaner or specialty stain removing sprays.

• If all efforts at home fail and there are still white-out traces on your garment, take it to your local dry cleaner to remove the stain.
