How to Polish Lacquer Furniture

A piece of furniture with a glossy, lacquer finish is a durable and attractive piece of decor in any home. Lacquer gives a hard, high-gloss appearance that will last for many years with proper care and maintenance. Polishing lacquer furniture requires time and patience but ensures that your furniture will always looks its best.

Step 1

Wipe the lacquer furniture with a damp cloth. Use only enough water to keep the cloth damp but not dripping.

Step 2

Wipe the lacquer furniture with a dry, clean cloth to remove smudges and dust. Wipe off any water left behind by the damp cloth.

Step 3

Apply a solvent-based furniture cleaner to the lacquer finish with a clean cloth. As you apply, wipe the furniture with a second dry cloth to clean the piece.

Step 4

Apply liquid wax with a clean cloth to the lacquer finish. Apply a small amount at a time.

Step 5

Polish the piece with a clean cloth until the lacquer finish achieves a glossy look. The wax will protect the finish from grime and moisture.
