How to Clean Lambskin Leather

Save

Lambskin is a soft skin that comes in two varieties, shearling and smooth. Shearling lambskin is napped, soft leather that's similar to suede, while smooth lambskin is a soft, fine-grained leather. These cuts of lambskin leather have different durability. Shearling lambskin is used in delicate clothing, while smooth lambskin leather is used for more durable clothing like motorcycle riding wear. The methods of cleaning each of these types of leather is the same.

Things You'll Need

  • Suede brush
  • Cornstarch
  • All-natural leather polish
  • Cloth
  • Lay the lambskin leather out flat. Use the suede brush to brush out the leather in the direction of the grain.

  • Sprinkle cornstarch on any stains and rub it in. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

  • Brush out the leather again.

  • Oil the leather with a gentle, all-natural leather oil. Pour some leather on a soft cloth and rub the oil into the leather by following the direction of the grain. Continue until all of the leather is oiled.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid placing lambskin leather in very dry conditions, or saturating the leather.
