Baked-on grease can be difficult to remove from frying pans. The best course to keep grease from sticking and staining pans is to wash the pan soon after it is used, but only after it has cooled. The longer grease is allowed to sit on the pan, the harder it will be to clean.
Things You'll Need
- Hot tap water
- Dishwashing liquid
- Scouring pad
- White vinegar
Fill the sink with hot, soapy water. Use dishwashing liquid such as Dawn, which has grease-fighting ingredients. Soak the pan in the sink for 10 to 15 minutes.
Scrub as much grease off as you can with a scouring pad. Rinse off the soap and grease.
Place pan on the sink and pour in enough undiluted white vinegar to cover the remaining grease stains. Boil the vinegar for 10 to 15 minutes. Let cool.
Dump vinegar down the drain and scrub off the rest of the grease using the scouring pad and dishwashing liquid. Rinse.
Tips & Warnings
- The easiest time to clean a pan is right after use, after it has cooled.
- Never use a scouring pad with non-stick cookware. The pad will scrub off the non-stick coating. Use sponges with non-stick cookware. Never place a hot frying pan in cold water as this could damage the cookware. Always allow the frying pan to cool before washing to prevent burns on your person or damage to the pan.
