If you have animals or children, you are probably spot cleaning your carpet frequently. You can remove most carpet stains with solutions made from simple household ingredients. One unpleasant stain to remove is animal or human feces. Immediately attempt to clean a stain as soon as you notice it. Most carpets today are made with stain resistant treatments, which provide a temporary barrier between your carpet fibers and the stain. Many stains are made permanent when the carpet owner puts off stain removal. Regular cleaning of your carpet will make it look newer and last longer.
Step 1
Clean up the feces by removing as much as you can with a dustpan and paper towels. Avoid applying pressure and working the feces into the carpet.

Apply liquid dish soap to a clean cloth, and blot the soiled area. Rinse the cloth, and continue to apply the dish soap and blot the stain until you are no longer picking up any of the feces.
Step 3
Mix one tbsp. of vinegar with ½ cup of water, and carefully pour it over the mixture. Use a clean cloth to work the mixture into the fibers and loosen the soiled area.
Step 4
Dry the area completely by applying pressure to paper towels. Place a few paper towels over the area, and stand on them to work out all of the moisture.
Step 5
Sprinkle baking soda over the soiled area, and allow it to dry overnight. As the baking soda dries it will suck up the odors and moisture from the carpet.
Step 6
Vacuum the baking soda up.
Tip
If you own a dog, consider feeding it food that does not contain any dyes. Many dog foods are dyed red to look more appealing in their packages to owners, but the red dye will not affect your dog’s food preference and can permanently stain many carpets. Always blot stains and never rub them. Rubbing a stain can actually spread it. If the stain is difficult and you need to rub it to get it out, rub from the outside of the stain to the center.
Warning
Always test any carpet stain remover on an inconspicuous area of your carpet in case it reacts and forms a permanent mark.
Always use rubber gloves when handling animal feces.
