How to Remove Oxidation From RV Siding

Recreational vehicles generally see a lot of sunlight, which over time causes the paint to oxidize. Oxidation happens to almost any material that is exposed to the sun for long periods. It will cause the paint or finish of a material to become dried out and dull. To restore the shine to the siding, you must remove the oxidation

Things You'll Need

• Bucket
• Mild detergent
• Sponge
• Towel
• Rubbing compound
• Rags
• Boat wax
• Electric buffer

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with warm water and add a mild detergent. Mix with a sponge and then thoroughly clean the RV's siding, removing any dirt and other buildup that may be on the surface. Rinse the siding with clean water and dry it with a towel.

2. Locate the areas that have oxidation and apply rubbing compound to them using a rag. Rub the areas in a circular motion until the surface is smooth and beginning to shine. Do not rub too much and go through the layer of gel coat down to the siding. Rinse the siding with water and dry it with a towel.

3. Apply two heavy coats of boat wax to the siding using the included foam applicator. Let the wax dry. The entire surface of the siding should be hazy with wax.

4. Buff the siding using an electric buffer until the original shine returns. Wipe the siding with clean rags to remove any leftover dry wax.
